Today I got my membership welcome packet from the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The EFF is a 501(c)3 org that fights for our rights to free, open communication. I’ve been following them on twitter for a while now, but after the NSA leaks began, I decided it was time to actually start participating in funding their efforts. A huge worry of mine is that, for all the I read in an attempt to stay informed, there’s very little I feel I can really do. As you can see on the EFF “Work” page, they take the money they raise to pitch legal battles against the powers that are trying to take our rights away. You can see one of their recent successes here.
Aside from their regular twitter account, I’ve also found their @EFFLIVE account to be really informative. They live-tweet what they see during court hearings, congressional meetings, etc. With so much happening in secret, it’s another step forward for transparency.
